MEN is a Brooklyn-based band and art/performance collective that focuses on the energy of live performance and the radical potential of dance music. MEN speaks to issues such as trans awareness, wartime economies, sexual compromise, and demanding liberties through lyrical content and an exciting stage show.
The group began in 2007 as the DJ/production/remix team of Le Tigre members JD Samson and Johanna Fateman. When the duo began to write new songs, it made sense to merge their efforts with JD's other new project, Hirsute. JD and original Hirsute members Michael O'Neill (Princess, Ladybug Transistor) and Ginger Brooks Takahashi (LTTR, The Ballet) then comprised the core of MEN, with Johanna Fateman and artist Emily Roysdon contributing as writers, consultants, and producers. With the release of their debut album Talk About Body in February 2011, Takahashi was subsequently replaced by Tami Hart.

BECAUSE OF HIGH DEMAND FROM FANS, WE HAVE DECIDED TO ADD A SMALLER SHOW IN SYDNEY ON MARCH 2ND AT THE RED RATTLER THEATER!

Today MEN was informed that they have been nominated for a GLAAD Media Award.
This nomination is a very important one for the band as it is given to artists and entertainers in the GLBT community who have created work that has had a positive influence on equality for queers.
GLAAD is an organization that’s foundation is built around “amplify(ing) the voice of the LGBT community and (helping to) achieve full equality”.
MEN is nominated alongside other amazing artists: Hunx and his Punx, Beverly Shane, Girl In a Coma, and Lady Gaga.
Dear Friends and Family,
Over the past few months, MEN have decided that we will be self-releasing our music this year as well as self-managing our music career.
As the economy chases its own tail, we remember putting on punk shows and getting fingerprints on our art. We will maintain our DIY roots and remember what it feels like to feed our own family. And grow together.
What this means is that we need the support and help from our fans. In fact, we could not do this without you. We would not exist without your continued source of love and dedication to this community and our art.
So as we start this journey, we would like to put together a street team of people who care about our process, and want to help us reach as many people as we can. We know how important grass roots promotion can work, and feel lucky to come from a place where this idea reigns.
If you are interested in lending a hand we would love to hear from you. Please email us at email hidden; JavaScript is required and use the word STREET TEAM in the subject field.
In the email text, please let us know where you live, how old you are, what you do for a job and/or what you do for a hobby. As well as anything else you want to say too.
We need people to put up posters, flyer, throw parties, fundraise, even listen to our music and tell us what you like the best! Let us know how you think you can help MEN in the coming year. We are lucky to have you, that’s why we want to include you.
“Meet you in the streets”
Love,
MEN
